Great response to Area 52
There have been some wonderful pieces appearing singing the praises of Rodrigo y Gabriela's breand new album Area 52. The New York Times followed Rod and Gab to Mexico for a rare hometown show and spoke to them about their journey so far. NPR music and All Things Considered caught the same show and have an interview with RyG up on their site. Listen here.

Rodrigo y Gabriela announce full European tour with the C.U.B.A. this February / March 2012.
Rodrigo y Gabriela will be touring the UK, Ireland and Europe with their new Cuban band, the C.U.B.A., featuring some of Havana's finest musicians. The dates are the first time Rod & Gab will have toured with a full band, and the shows will offer a unique opportunity to experience this already amazing live act as never before.
The tour will follow the release of Rodrigo y Gabriela's new album, recorded with C.U.B.A., and entitled 'Area 52'. It is released in the UK on January 23rd. The album was recorded in Havana during the summer of 2011, and was produced by Peter Asher and Rodrigo. On the album, Rod & Gab revisit nine of their own original compositions with dramatic new arrangements featuring a thirteen-piece Cuban orchestra.

New Rodrigo y Gabriela studio album Area 52 coming this January
New Rodrigo y Gabriela studio album Area 52 coming this January
January 23rd 2012 (24th in the USA). Entitled 'Area 52', the album is
their first recorded collaboration with another group of musicians; a thirteen piece Cuban
orchestra composed of some of Havana's finest young players,
collectively known as the C.U.B.A.
On 'Area 52' Rodrigo y Gabriela revisit nine of their compositions and
reinterpret them in a new and dramatic fashion, this is Rodrigo y Gabriela as they
have never been heard before.
The album was arranged by Rodrigo y Gabriela working closely with Switzerland
based pianist Alex Wilson, who did the Cuban arrangements for the orchestra. He
has worked with Courtney Pine, Ernest Ranglin and Mali Latino. Recording took
place during the summer at Abdala Studios in Havana and later at Lumbini Studios
in Ixtapa, Mexico. Guests on the album include Anoushka Shankar on sitar, rock
drummer John Tempesta (The Cult, White Zombie, Testament) on two tracks, jazz
bass player Carles Benavent (Miles Davis, Paco De Lucia, Chick Corea) on two
tracks, Palestinian group Le Trio Joubran and Samuel Formell Alfonso
from Los Van
Van.
The album is called 'Area 52'. Rodrigo explains: “It's an obvious
reference to Area 51, it must be a fact that Area 52's next door right? We felt it was
the right time and place to deal with unknown ways to create music. It was an opportunity
to experiment and dare to do things we never believed we were gonna do”.
He adds: “Of course, all the musicians we played with on this album could be coming from
another planet.
Their technique and passion is almost beyond human understanding! We feel very
lucky because for us this exercise has been like a Master's Degree for all we've
learned from them”.

New European Tour Dates Announced
Rodrigo y Gabriel be will be returning to the highways and byways of Europe this November. They have just announced a ten date European tour where they will be visiting Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece and Luxembourg. These will be the first theatre shows for some time in these countries and Rod and Gab are looking forward to getting up close and personal with their European friends. Mexico Tour Dates
Rodrigo y Gabriela are delighted to annouce a small Mexican tour for this December. Our favourite acoustic shredders will be playing two shows in Mexico City at El Plaza Condessa on the 5th and 6th December. These will be proceeded by shows in Guadalajara on Friday 2nd and Monterrey on Saturday 3rd.

George Harrison Unicef Campaign
George Harrison was an inspiration to Rodrigo y Gabriela and musicians across the world. In 1971, his friend Ravi Shankar asked him to help the children of Bangladesh. George took action by hosting the Concert for Bangladesh in support of UNICEF. I am proud to join the anniversary celebration and honor George’s legacy by supporting the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF. Summer's here and the time is right for Rod & Gab's first love: wowing crowds in the big fields across Europe. To coincide with their tour dates, Rubyworks is set to release 'Live In France', recorded at various venues around the Fifth Republic on the 11:11 world tour.
It's a very different live document to 2008's 'Live In Japan', which marked the end of Rod & Gab's seated performances. Their live shows are constantly evolving and the 11:11 tour mixed deft acoustic dexterity with an electrifying shred-fest of white hot duelling guitars. No chairs then, but plenty of FX pedal hopping and feet on the monitors rocking. The album captures this fusion framed by rapturous receptions from their fanatical legion of French followers.

Boulder, Colorado show Postponement
The Boulder, Colorado performance on Friday, April 1, 2011 has been officially postponed to Wednesday, April 27th, 2011. The event will take place in Macky Auditorium beginning at 8:00PM, with doors at 7:00PM. The date change comes as a result of an unforeseen scheduling conflict and we sincerely apologize for the date change and are doing everything possible to minimize inconvenience for current ticket-holders.
Tickets to the originally scheduled April 1st performance are officially SOLD-OUT. However, all tickets for the performance on April 1st will be honored at the performance on April 27th. There will be a refund period for all ticket-holders unable to make the re-scheduled performance starting Monday, April 4th at 11:00 a.m. and ending on Friday, April 15th at 4:00 p.m. For those student ticket-holders unable to make the re-scheduled performance, refunds will be provided in the UMC Connection. For all non-student ticket holders, refunds will be provided through Extreme Tix and you should be receiving an email with instructions. Again, tickets for the performance on the 1st will be accepted at the performance on the 27th.

The Decemberists and Rodrigo Y Gabriela
Rodrigo Y Gabriela will join the bill as main support to The Decemberists in Oregon this May for what promises to be another unmissable outdoor summer show. Both acts will be hitting the Les Schwab Amphitheatre, Bend OR on Sun 29th May for one performance only.

Rodrigo Y Gabriela are proud and excited to announce a new musical venture. After months of hints and rumours they can now confirm that one of the summer’s most highly anticipated blockbuster movies, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” will features original music by Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer and Rod and Gab.
The score for Pirates of the Caribbean 4 brings together one of the most respected and sought-after composers (an Academy Award winner with a further eight additional Oscar nominations for films such as Gladiator, Inception, The Dark Knight, Batman Begins to name but a few) and the premier guitar playing duo in the world – Rodrigo Y Gabriela.
Speaking on the creative process Zimmer recently said, 'The way we’re working, the three of us are sitting in a room, I play average keyboards and they play brilliant guitars and we’re writing cues together. There’s a force, a ferocity, about their sound.'
You will be able to hear the fruits of their labours when Walt Disney Records release the soundtrack for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides on May 17, 2011.
The movie, once again starring Johnny Depp as captain Jack Sparrow, joined for this outing by Penelope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush and Ian McShane, will follow in theaters on May 20, 2011.

Live At The Hollywood Bowl – August
Not content with one groundbreaking project this summer Rodrigo Y Gabriela are also limbering up for what promise to be two of their most unforgettable concerts ever. On Friday August 12 and Saturday August 13 Rodrigo Y Gabriela will perform live at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.
In a celebration of the passion and rhythm of the guitar, this extraordinary concert brings the orchestra together with Rodrigo y Gabriela in the illustrious and famous setting of the magnificent Hollywood Bowl – site of some legendary concerts through the years. These two shows will surely be added to that list. Joining Rod and gab for the two concerts will be the blistering Spanish sounds of Buikaand Javier Limón.
