Today, Rodrigo y Gabriela release a brand-new Amazon Original song, “Gamma State,” available on Amazon Music. Originally a demo from the sessions for Mettavolution, Rod and Gab returned to the studio to flesh out the song into an intense and exhilarating guitar-centric sprint.
Speaking of the song Rod said, “The first sketches of this song started a couple of years ago, when we started writing for the new album. We road-tested it on tour in Australia last year and it went down well with our fans there. However, as we zoomed in on recording Mettavolution with Dave Sardy in Los Angeles, it became apparent that it didn’t quite sit with the rest of the songs on the record, So we are very happy that ‘Gamma State’ is now finally coming out into the world.”
Rodrigo y Gabriela have announced new US live dates for the fall, beginning in Sugar Land, TX, on November 15, and ending in Miami Beach, FL, on December 6, with a slew of dates throughout the midwest and southeast in between.
Rodrigo y Gabriela have been bringing their incendiary stage performance to fans across the globe in support of their latest album, METTAVOLUTION. The acoustic duo’s first album in five years, METTAVOLUTION marks the most ambitious music of Rodrigo y Gabriela’s remarkable two-decade career and was one of NPR’s top 6 albums of the week upon release. Three years in the making, the LP embraces the duo’s passionate interest in Buddhism, the history of human evolution and the liberation of the potential we have as a species, all expressed through the medium of two acoustic guitars.

Rod and Gab joined host Felix Contreras for an in depth chat on NPR’s Alt Latino.
On this episode of Alt.Latino, they take a deep dive into their musical DNA to get a more complete picture of how their disparate musical influences come together to create a sound that is immediately identified as “Rod y Gab.”
They asked Rodrigo y Gabriela to bring in a handful of songs that have influenced them. As musicians say of one another, they have “big ears,” meaning they listen to a wide variety of genres and styles. Punk, jazz, funk and, of course, metal. Now that they mention it, yeah… I can hear it all.
Following their recent sold–out Roundhouse show, and with their new album Mettavolution released this week to much critical acclaim, Rodrigo y Gabriela have announced news of an extensive UK tour in late September and early October, including a performance at London’s Eventim Apollo. Additionally, the band have shared a visually arresting video to the album’s title track, of which they say: “It was wonderful to work with director George Mays on this video. And once again we worked with visual designer Joshua Pierce who also designed the Mettavolution album cover. His ethereal landscapes bring a sense of otherworldly nature to the video. With this video we were trying to balance the energy of the track with a meditative calm where we are at one with our surroundings.”
Rodrigo y Gabriela are soon to embark on a huge US tour with dates running throughout the Spring and Summer, before returning to the UK in September for the below live dates:
Five years since their last album, Rodrigo y Gabriela are ready to embark on the next chapter of their remarkable story, with the release of the most ambitious music of their twenty year career together. Mettavolution brings together Rod and Gab’s passionate interest in Buddhism, the history of human evolution and the liberation of the potential we have as a species; all expressed through the medium of two acoustic guitars.
Conceived and composed in their studio in Ixtapa on the Mexican Pacific Coast, then road-tested in South America and the USA in 2017, before more fine tuning and further tweaks on their Australian tour of 2018, a long list of new material has been distilled down to six new Rodrigo y Gabriela compositions and one audacious, jaw-dropping cover version of Pink Floyd’s Echoes.
The next track from the upcoming album Mettavolution is out now. The song is titled Terracentric and speaking of the idea behind the music Rod and Gab said,
“Sometimes we need to be self centered in order to be the best version of ourselves for us and for others. Meditation is a good example of an individual practice that in fact is the most compassionate action we can do for everyone. Clearing the mind is not only for your own benefit but for the benefit of all living beings. Terracentric is an invitation to look inward, to be a little bit “selfish” for a minute and do what you can for your own sake. If we all did the same this world would be a very different one. Terracentric is the connection with this earth. Reconnecting with the so called reality of our human existence.”
