Five years since their last album, Mexican acoustic rock guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela are ready to embark on the next chapter of their remarkable story, with the release of the most ambitious music of their twenty year career together. Three years in the making, Mettavolution brings together Rod and Gab’s passionate interest in Buddhism, the history of human evolution and the liberation of the potential we have as a species; all expressed through the medium of two acoustic guitars.

Conceived and composed in their studio in Ixtapa on the Mexican Pacific Coast, then road-tested in South America and the USA in 2017, before more fine tuning and further tweaks on their Australian tour of 2018, a long list of new material has been distilled down to six new Rodrigo y Gabriela compositions and one audacious, jaw-dropping cover version.

Rodrigo y Gabriela have shared a first taste of the album in the form of “Echoes”, a cover of the Pink Floyd track, which takes up the whole of the second half of Mettavolution. Long-time Floyd fans, Rod and Gab lovingly pay homage to the ‘Meddle’ era prog-classic, while at the same time weaving their own golden threads into its timeless textures, to create something exciting, contemporary and unforgettable.

Rodrigo y Gabriela are delighted to announce that they will perform at this year’s Glastonbury festival.  The legendary festival takes place on Worthy farm in the UK on the 27,28 & 29 June.

Rod Gab & Mogees

Rodrigo y Gabriela are working with Mogees! Mogees is a brand new instrument app that turns the everyday objects around you into unique and powerful musical instruments. It works in conjunction with a small sensor that detects and analyses the vibrations that we make when we interact with the objects around us. It uses a special sound technique to alter their acoustic properties so as to make them musical.

Bruno, the founder of Mogees, met up recently with Rodrigo where they came up with this unique guitar fruitbowl jam on tamacun..

Working with Mogees Rodrigo y Gabriela will release an exclusive version of the Mogees device to concide wth 9 Dead Alive. This branded version will include interpretations of songs from the album created by Rodrigo to work on Mogees, enabling all fans regardless of musical ability to play these compositions.

A new documentary charting the formation, early years and rise of Rodrigo y Gabriela will receive its worldwide premiere at this year’s SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. On Saturday 15th March attendees at SXSW will get the first chance to see the documentary made by Alejandro Franco.
